Safety and security

The safety and wellbeing of the children in our care is of paramount importance at Little Cherubs. Access to our nurseries is strictly controlled to ensure a secure and protected environment at all times.

Both of our nursery settings operate video intercom systems, allowing staff to carefully monitor who is entering and leaving the premises throughout the day. All main gates and doors remain securely locked, with entry supervised by our team.
We also operate a secure fob-access entry system, ensuring that only authorised staff members can access designated areas of the building.

From 2026, CCTV systems will be installed within nursery rooms and communal areas, providing an additional layer of safeguarding and security. These systems will be regularly monitored by the management team to support our robust safeguarding procedures.

Emergency preparedness

For additional reassurance, both Little Cherubs nurseries are equipped with a fully maintained Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on site.

This life-saving equipment is designed for use on infants, children and adults, providing critical emergency support should it ever be required.

All members of our team are trained in Paediatric First Aid, ensuring they are confident and prepared to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a medical emergency.

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Health and Safety Officer
  • SEN Coordinator
  • Equal Opportunities Officer
  • Mindfulness Ambassadors
  • Fire Marshals

We also teach children about personal safety through age-appropriate discussions and activities, including topics such as road safety and stranger awareness.

Safeguarding children

Our Safeguarding Policies are reviewed regularly and reflect current statutory guidance and best practice.
Please view our safeguarding policy.

Visitors

To maintain a safe and secure environment, visitors to the nursery are limited during the nursery day.
All visitors must:

  • Attend by appointment only
  • Present valid identification on arrival
  • Sign the visitors’ book upon entry
  • Be accompanied by a member of staff at all times

Visitors, including contractors and visiting professionals, are never left unattended while on the premises. Access during nursery hours is carefully managed to minimise disruption and uphold our safeguarding standards.

Collection of Children

We follow strict procedures regarding the collection of children to ensure their safety and security at all times.

To protect every child:

  • Only authorised adults are permitted to collect a child
  • Parents must inform the nursery in advance if someone else will be collecting and ensure they bring valid identification
  • Each child is issued with a unique password for verification

Safe Recruitment

All employees at Little Cherubs undergo thorough recruitment and suitability checks before commencing employment.
These include:

  • Enhanced DBS checks & subscription to the DBS update service (checked regularly during employment)
  • Professional reference checks
  • Verification of relevant qualifications
  • Risk assessments during the recruitment and selection process

Once all required checks have been fully completed, every new staff member undertakes a comprehensive induction programme.

This includes training in safeguarding, policies and procedures, and best practice before they are permitted to work independently within nursery rooms.

This rigorous approach ensures consistency of care and maintains the highest standards of safeguarding across both nurseries.

Security & Confidentiality

All data for children, families and staff is stored within a secure encrypted database that cannot be accessed by search engines.

Each parent or carer is provided with secure login details directly from the Nursery Office, ensuring access is restricted to their own child’s profile only.

Your child’s privacy, safety and confidentiality remain our highest priority at all times.
