Safety and security

The safety of the children in our care is of paramount importance and access to the nursery is strictly controlled. Both our nurseries have a video intercom system so that staff can monitor who is entering and leaving the nursery throughout the day and the main gates/doors are kept locked at all times.

Visitors

All visitors to the nursery are required to sign the visitor’s book on arrival. Any persons on the premises, be it for maintenance/servicing, visits, meetings etc, are always chaperoned by a member of staff & never left unattended. These are by appointment ONLY. Visitors during the nursery day are restricted at this time.

Collection of Children

Our staff adhere to strict policies and procedures regarding who is authorised to collect a child. If the authorised person cannot collect the child then the parent must call the nursery to inform us that someone else will be collecting. Each child is given a unique password that we can use to identify who is allowed to collect.

Safe Recruitment

All employees are checked with the Disclosure and barring service (DBS) when they start at Little Cherubs and previous professional references are sourced*.

Every new member of staff is also required to attend up to 3 formal induction days, where training is given on our policies and procedures, to insure consistency of care and safeguard the children within our care.

*suitability for each member of staff is risk assessed during the recruitment selection process.

Health and safety

Both our nurseries have robust Health and Safety procedures in place to guarantee the children’s safety and security at all times. Each room and outdoor area is risk assessed on a daily basis to ensure the environment is safe for our children, and regular maintenance is carried out accordingly.

We have designated officers that hold responsibility to ensure high standards are maintained and updated with any regulatory changes.

E.G: Designated Safeguarding Lead, Health and Safety Officer, SEN Coordinator, Equal Opportunity Officer, Mindfulness Ambassadors and Fire Marshals.

We also believe it is our duty to teach children in our care about keeping themselves safe; so, discussions and activities around subjects, such as road safety and ‘stranger danger’ for example, are built into our curriculum.

Safeguarding children

Little Cherubs has a clear commitment to protecting children and promoting welfare. We will support children within our care, protect them from maltreatment and have robust procedures in place to prevent the impairment of children’s health and development. Our nursery will work with children, parents, external agencies and the community to ensure the welfare and safety of children and to give them the very best start in life. Children have the right to be treated with respect and to be safe from any abuse in whatever form.

Each nursery has at least TWO designated safeguarding leads that are committed to ensuring the highest safeguarding procedures & welfare for all the children within the care of Little Cherubs.

The Designated safeguarding lead ensures staff have completed the minimum of Safeguarding Level 2, FGM & prevent training whilst on an induction with the company and that they fully understand:

  • What is child abuse
  • What to do if they have any concern relating to a child, parent or staff member & how to record & report this
  • How to liaise between Safeguarding Agencies. (Police, Social services and OFSTED as appropriate)
  • Ensure that all staff who work in the nursery understand the Safeguarding Policy.
  • Ensure that the Safeguarding Procedures are followed at all times.
  • Continue to develop their awareness of Safeguarding issues and update knowledge as necessary with training.
  • Ensure every staff member fully understands the whistleblowing policy.
